The impact of a slashed child tax credit recently will have significant consequences in St. Louis. How significant? According to St. Louis City government statistics, there were 22,405 children living in poverty in the city, and that’s not counting the surrounding metropolitan area. To get a picture of what that might look like – what it might feel like to grow up poor – consider reading “A Tale of Sorcery by Chris Colfer.” Sixth-grader Tucker Abeles recently reviewed the novel. “Even though the story takes place in a fictional world,” Tucker says, “Chris Colfer makes the story fun and interesting while showing flaws in society and how it is like to grow up in poverty.” Tucker does recommend to read the first two books in the series before A Tale of Sorcery.
